John J. Welfel passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township. He was 89 years old.

Born in Paramus, he has resided in Iselin since 1976.

Mr. Welfel was employed by the Bergen County Road Department for 40 years before retiring as a supervisor in 1992.

He was a member of Saint Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergenfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and John Welfel; sister, Lorretta Dunn; and brothers, Frank, Peter and William Welfel.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Unger Welfel; children, John Welfel and his wife, Tara, and Debbie Lynch and her husband, John;four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Visitation for the family and friends will be on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.costello-grenier.com ), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A funeral service will take place on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
