John Serak passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the New Jersey Veterans Home at Menlo Park. He was 88 years old. Born in Woodbridge, he resided in Brick before moving to the New Jersey Veterans Home a year ago. Mr. Serak was employed as head operator with Chevron Oil Company in Perth Amboy for 30 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Saint John's Orthodox Church in Perth. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and belonged to T. Nulty Post 471, American Legion in Iselin. John was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Barbara Fesko Serak; and two sisters, Lieutenant Commander Helen Serak, USN and Anna Serak. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Talabiska of Woodbridge and Barbara Kmech of Succasunna; a brother, Michael Serak and his wife, Philomena, of Fords; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 22, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint John's Orthodox Church, Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with parastas services at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's Orthodox Church Restoration Fund, 145 Broad Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
