John R. Poesl passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township with his wife by his side. He was 55 years old.
Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Carteret and Woodbridge before moving to Avenel 30 years ago.
A 1978 graduate of Perth Amboy Vocational School, Mr. Poesl was employed as a machinist with White Marine in Perth Amboy before retiring due to health reasons 15 years ago; and was previously employed by Tingley Rubber, Thomas & Betts and Philips Corporation.
He was an avid outdoorsman, spending time with his family and devoted hunting dogs, Spike and Ranger while going hunting, fishing, boating, shooting and camping. John served as quartermaster in the Sea Scouts in Carteret, Raven Ship 89. He was also a third degree member of Saint Andrew Council 5088, Knights of Columbus, Avenel, Treasurer of the Hillside Sportsmen Club, Treasurer of the Union County Federation of Sportsmen Clubs and a member of the Merrill Creek Conservation & Sportsmen Association.
A loving husband, father, brother, son and uncle "Bingo", John is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Kim Kuzma Poesl; his dearest parents, Walter and Halina Poesl, of Woodbridge; loving sons, John and his fiancé, Amanda Thompson, of Parlin and Matthew of South Amboy; his dear brothers, Walter of Woodbridge, Eric and his wife, Dawn, of Sewaren and James and his wife, Debbie, of Chestnut Ridge, NY; nieces and nephews, Valerie, James and Jessica Poesl and Richie and Bianca Kuzma; brother in law and sister in law, Rich and Kimberly Kuzma; sister in law, Francine Clark; father in law, Richard Kuzma and his companion, Gerri Steiner; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. from the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel followed with services at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fords. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015 in John's memory would be appreciated by the family.
