John "Monty" Montecalvo passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Aristacare at Cedar Oaks Care Center in South Plainfield. He was 86 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, he has resided in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township since 1960.

Mr. Montecalvo attended Lincoln Technical School in Newark and owned and operated Monty's Garage and worked as a salesman with various local car dealerships prior to his retirement.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of T. Nulty Post 471, American Legion in Iselin. Additionally, he was a communicant of Good Shepherd Parish, Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hopelawn, belonged to the Holy Rosary Senior Citizens and The Blockbusters Drag Racing Club and served as a Middlesex County Democratic Committeeman.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Alice Montecalvo; children, Darlene Cosgrove and her husband, Dennis, Diane Makar and her husband, Michael, and Michael Montecalvo and his wife, Sharon; sister, Sue Vargo; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:00 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hopelawn. Entombment will be in Saint James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
