John J. Lynch passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at his home in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township. He was 84 years old.
Born in the Bronx, NY on May 12, 1939 to the late Vera and William Lynch, he resided in Iselin for the past 57 years.
Mr. Lynch served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was president of the Union of Automotive Technicians, Local 563 A.F.L.-C.I.O for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for over 25 years.
He was a first responder after the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and participated in search, rescue, and recovery operations at ground zero for over a year.
John attended Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He was a member of the HUBS in Perth Amboy, Post 87 of the American Legion in Woodbridge, and the Sewaren Boat Club.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Veronica Arbia Lynch; his children, John Lynch Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Fords, Brian Lynch and his wife, Melanie of Woodbridge, and Daniel Lynch and his wife, Debra of Edison; his sister, Catherine Berrian, of Long Island, NY; his grandchildren, Brian, Jr., Jesse (Alexa), Kevin (Jenn), Amanda, Kelly and Kaley; and great grandson, Jesse Lee. Also, he is survived by countless family and friends who all loved him.
John was an avid boater and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling with his partner in crime, his beautiful wife, Veronica. He was a lifelong Yankee fan and longtime New York Giants season ticket holder. Most important to John was his family. He enjoyed hosting many holiday dinners, taking his grandchildren out for breakfast, taking part in celebrations with his family around him, and spending time with his newest love, his great grandson, Jesse Lee. He was dependable, strong, loving, and kind. He leaves many broken hearts behind, but also countless wonderful memories.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel, New Jersey. Funeral services will take place on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge, New Jersey. Entombment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (saintjude.org) in Mr. Lynch's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
