Obituary

John R. Keenan, known to all as Jack, passed away on Sunday December 12, 2021, at his home in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township. He was 89 years old.

Born in Newark, he resided in Sewaren for 57 years.

Jack was employed through Local 680 of the Milk Employees Union for many years before retiring from Johanna Farms Dairy in Flemington.

He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, and was very active with the Knights of Columbus. He was a Third Degree member of Middlesex Council 857, Knights of Columbus, Woodbridge, where he served as Grand Knight from 1981-1982. He was also elected District Deputy and appointed Delegate to the Supreme Convention in 1982. He was a Fourth Degree member of Rev. John J. Griffith General Assembly, Woodbridge Township, where he served as Faithful Navigator from 1984-1985 as well as serving as Lieutenant with the Color Corps.

Jack was an avid bowler for many years. After retirement, his favorite hobbies included cruising, trips to Atlantic City, and golfing. He was a member of a local senior golf league and thoroughly enjoyed his many road trips with his buddies to Myrtle Beach to play.

Jack was loved by all; so much so that Mayor John McCormac proclaimed January 19, 2012, as Jack Keenan Day!

Most of all, Jack loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and their families. He enjoyed family pictures and making lasting memories.

Jack was predeceased by his son, John R. Keenan, Jr.; parents, John and Mary Kane Keenan; brother, William Keenan; and sisters, Margaret McVeigh, Catherine Baucher, Mary Keenan, and Patricia Keenan.

John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia "Nancy" Major Keenan; children, Michael Keenan and his wife, Marie of Hanahan, SC; Donna Wojciak and her husband, Bill of Yorba Linda, CA; and Lisa Papis and her husband, Jim of Sparta, NJ; as well as his grandchildren, John Keenan III and his wife, Laura; David Keenan, Ryan Keenan, William Wojciak Jr., Craig Wojciak, James Papis, Jr., Steven Papis, and Jennifer Papis.
