John P. Gaughran (a.k.a Johnny G to family and friends) passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024 at home surrounded by family.  He was 88 years old.

Born in the South Bronx, NY in 1936, he has resided in Woodbridge for the past 43 years.

Mr. Gaughran graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx, and was a United States Army Veteran stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.

He spent his working career in the financial district of NYC. In 2000 he retired from The New York Stock Exchange after a long, successful career spanning 25+ years in regulatory compliance.

Mr. Gaughran was a history buff with a special interest in World War II.  He loved antiques, Broadway musicals, going to garage sales, cooking his "famous" meatballs and spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary (Monaghan) Gaughran; son-in-law, Michael Haake, in 2016; and former wife, Barbara Gaughran, in 2014.

Surviving are his daughters, Joann Gaughran and her husband, Elie Spiesel, of South Orange, Jean Haake of Metuchen, June Bruni and her husband, Daniel, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Jaquelyn Gritz and her husband, Jamie, of Stewartsville, Jennifer Velez and her husband, Joseph, of Fords and Jodi Geyer and her husband, Randy, of Havre De Grace, Maryland; son, Sean Gaughran and his wife, Maureen, of Colonia; his grandchildren, Madison, Aoife, Thomas, Zachary, Bryelle, Berit, Emily, Jackson, Jadyn, Juliet, Jacob, Brady and Brendan; and his brother Edward Gaughran of Carmel, NY

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.  A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge.  Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
