Obituary

John B. Dayke passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. He was 78 years old. Born in Elizabeth, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for 55 years. Mr. Dayke was employed as a supervisor with Carborundum Company in Keasbey for 25 years before retiring in 1990. He was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel and was a Third Degree member of Saint Andrew Council 5088, Knights of Columbus in Avenel and Fourth Degree member of Rev. John J. Griffith General Assembly, Woodbridge. Mr. Dayke was a former commissioner with Avenel Fire District No. 1 and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Rusty. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Reinhard Dayke, in 2009. Surviving are a daughter, Debra King and her husband, Thomas, of Apex, NC; a son, Darren Dayke, of Avenel; and a brother, Ralph Dayke and his wife, Carol, of Asbury. Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel, followed at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Resurrection at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (jdrf.org), 28 Kennedy Blvd, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
