John J. Check passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. He was 54 years old.

Born in Rahway, he resided in Woodbridge before moving to Fords 30 years ago.

John was a self-employed painter; a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Fords; and belonged to Council 857, Knights of Columbus, Woodbridge. He enjoyed music and played guitar with The Holy Smokes, a local band, for many years; and had a black belt in karate.

He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia Lutgens and Raymond P. Check.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Dana Shuman Check; his children, Matt and Ally Check; sister, Patricia Christoffersen; and brothers, Michael and Joseph Check.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Fords. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home , 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge.
