John E. Casteras passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit. He was 79 years old.

Born on August 17, 1945 in Peekskill, NY to the late Pauline and John Casteras, he moved to New Jersey when he was 15 days old. His family moved to Colonia when he was 8 years old.

Mr. Casteras was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, Class of 1963; and furthered his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, receiving his bachelor's degree there in 1967 and PhD in 1973, while residing in Troy, NY. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and stayed close friends with his brothers.

He was employed with ASARCO Research and retired from Alpha Metals in Jersey City as a material science engineer.

Mr. Casteras was a member of the Woodbridge Historical Association; the Antique Motorcycle Club of America; and Northeast Pyrenees Rescue.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Casteras was predeceased by a sister, Susan P. Casteras.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy Edwards Casteras; nieces, Wendy Goyer and Denise DeMarco; and nephew, John Paul Schnapper- Casteras, and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.
