Joan A. O'Brien passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 79 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she has resided in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township for 49 years.

Mrs. O'Brien was employed as a recreational aide at Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus for many years; was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic church in Port Reading; and belonged to the Sweet Adelines.

She was predeceased by a son, Keith M. O'Brien, in 1993.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, John R. O'Brien; son, John R. O'Brien and his wife, Veronica, of Browns Mills; and brother, Martin Russell, of Whiting.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
