Joan E. Modzelewski passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at her home in Woodbridge. She was 90 years old.

Born in Staten Island, NY, she has resided in Woodbridge since 1963.

Mrs. Modzelewski was a member of H.E.R.E., the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union, where she had served as shop steward. In addition, she was employed as a waitress at various establishments including Riffy's in Woodbridge, and the Holiday Inn of Carteret where she retired from.

She was a member of Perth Amboy Senior Citizens and the Ladies Auxiliary of Hopelawn Memorial Post 1352, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Chester S. Modzelewski Sr., in 2000; sister, Marion Decataldo; and brother, Walter McCue.

Survived are her children, Chester S. Modzelewski Jr. and wife Robin of Woodbridge, Mary Pace, and her husband Arthur of Carlisle, PA, Matthew Modzelewski of Wevertown, NY and Nora Van Demark and her husband Dennis of Spring Hill, FL; sisters, Alice Farkas of Lumberton and Virginia Scollan of Goshen, NY; grandchildren, Megan Pace, Theresa Dickerson, Nicholas Modzelewski, Shannon Petito and Connor Van Demark; and great grandchildren, Sydney, Juliet, Joshua and Elwiraine.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment of her remains will be in Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
