Joan Gfroehrer passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. She was 84 years.

Born in Jersey City on September 12, 1940 to the late Alice and John Netterman, she has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township since 1983.

Mrs. Gfroehrer was employed as a waitress for many years at various Union County restaurants for many years before retiring from the Tropicana Diner in Elizabeth.

She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Henry Gfroehrer, Jr., in 2019.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Henry Gfroehrer, Sr.; children, Alice DeBease and her husband, Peter, of Scotch Plains and Mike Gfroehrer and his wife, Colleen, of Avenel; and grandchildren, Meaghan, Marykate, Emily, Amy and Michael Gfroehrer, Kate Yetka and Bob Westerman.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Mrs. Gfroehrer's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
