James J. Wherrity passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Genesis Eldercare in Westfield. He was 68 years old. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Clark for most of his life. Mr. Wherrity had been employed as an electrician through IBEW Union #675 in Elizabeth for many years and was also a union musician with Dave Saunders and the Confederates. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War; and belonged to Post 7363, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clark. James enjoyed vacationing in the Irish Catskills with friends and family. Many of those friends he met while in the Catskills, where Jim enjoyed his other passions of horseback riding and playing his guitar with some of the local talent. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Wherrity. Mr. Wherrity is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Wherrity-Di Capua of Woodbridge and Deborah Wherrity-Smith of Woodbridge; a sister, Rosemary Segotta and her husband Ed of Woodbridge; two grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street (at Barron Avenue), Woodbridge. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Jim Thorpe, PA.
