Jacob M. "Jake" Samarya passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Twin Pines Nursing Center in West Grove, PA. He was 89 years old.

Born in North Tarrytown, NY on November 17, 1933 to the late Frances and Roy Samarija, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township since 1962.

Mr. Samarya was employed as a claims adjuster with State Farm Insurance Company in South Plainfield for 8 years before retiring in 1998; and was previously employed as production control manager with Accurate Bushing Company in Garwood. He also was employed part time as a driver with Villani Bus Company in Carteret and for almost two decades with Stop Foods / Hubbard's Cupboard / Krauszer's convenience stores throughout Woodbridge Township.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War; and a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Samarya was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Hornsby, Mary Loring Whitford, Sophie Rivers, Anna Emery and Helen Sciotti.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary E. Clare Samarya; daughters, Donnamarie Samarya, of Oxford, PA and Michele Samarya-Timm and her husband, Andy, of Franklin Park; sisters, Katherine Gilligan and Amelia Boel; and brother, John Samarija.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel.  A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Entombment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
