Henrique R. Pires passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at his home in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township. He was 73 years old.

Born in Arco De Valdevez, Portugal May 6, 1949 to the late Rosa and Joao Pires, he immigrated to the United states in 1987 where he resided in Elizabeth until 2003 when he and his family moved to Avenel where he resided for the last 19 years.

Mr. Pires was employed with Laborers Local 731 in New York City for 20+ years  prior to his retirement in 2011.  He was an avid soccer fan whose passion for his team, Sporting C.P.  was second only to his love for his family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Pires was predeceased by his brothers, Fernando Pires and Alberto Pires.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Maria da Conceição Pinto Mimoso Pires; sons, Ricardo J. Pires of Apex, NC and Andrew M. Pires of Matawan; sisters, Fatima Torres of Barnegat and Carmo Barros of Portugal; brothers, Joaquim Pires of Portugal, Severino Pires of Portugal, Manuel Pires of Portugal and Jose Pires of Kenilworth; grandchildren, Jackson Pires, Briella Pires, and Noah Pires; and daughters-in-law, Jill M. Pires and Amanda L. Pires.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel.
