Obituary

Helen E. Gow died on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at her home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. Born in New York City on September 18, 1934 to the late Thomas A. and Alice Dunne, Helen was adopted and raised in Jersey City by the late William and Helen Ochs, and moved to Colonia in 1967. She was employed as a Secretary with International Nickle Company in New York, NY for ten years until 1963. During the 1970's and 1980's Helen had volunteered at the JFK Medical Center Emergency Room and with Haven Hospice, but after hip surgeries was no longer physically able to perform those duties. Helen was an ardent supporter of animal rescue groups and during her marriage had nine dogs, including her surviving dog, Honey. In addition to her natural and adopted parents, Helen is predeceased by her step-father, Henry Lutz; her best friend and sister-in-law, Gertrude Kelly Gow; brother-in-law, Richard W. Gow, Jr. Surviving are her husband of fifty years, Warren Gow; Three daughters and son-in-laws, Lori and Glenn Zullo, Helli and Ed Izworski and Cindy and Mark Schafer; six grandchildren, Eric and Kyle Zullo, Jesse and Logan Izworski and Ty and Mia Schafer; and a nephew Michael Gow. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Entombment will private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Woodbridge Animal Shelter Volunteers, P.O. Box 555, Woodbridge, NJ 07095 or to a shelter of your choosing.
