Obituary

Gloria M. (Fernandez) Espada, 91, of Woodbridge, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison. She was born on December 15, 1923 in Victoria de las Tunas, Cuba to Gloria (de Zayas) and Francisco Fernandez. She arrived in the United States on November 6, 1961 with her husband and daughter. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, by her beloved husband of 55 years Luis Espada, by her sister Nelva Carbonell, by her brothers Francisco, Rafael, Fausto and Eduardo Fernandez, by her brother-in law Ignacio Vazquez and by her sisters-in law, Aida and Elvia. She is survived by her adored daughter, Alina Espada, and by her dearly loved son-in law Gerard Pilutkiewicz of Woodbridge, by her sister Ana Maria Vazquez of Chicago, by her brother Roberto Fernandez of Orlando, by her brother-in law Ramiro Carbonell of Miami, by many well-loved nieces and nephews and by her dear friends Dorothy Pilutkiewicz, who is her son-in-law's mother. Gloria was a department manager in Cuba at her uncle's pharmaceutical company, Linner Laboratories. In the United States she worked for many years making wedding gowns. She loved to sew, embroider and knit. She won numerous prizes in Catholic boarding school in Cuba for her superb embroidery skills and also for her academic performance. Her favorite trip was the trip she took to Spain, the land of her ancestors. She was honest, kind, hard working, loving and forthright. She will never be forgotten by her family and by those whose lives she touched. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Roosevelt Care Center for their superb and empathetic care. You are, indeed, God's angels on earth. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection 9:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Woodbridge. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral ho
