Gilberto Rene Gonzalez of the Fords section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was 52 years old. He was born in Huehuepiaxtla, Puebla, Mexico, raised in Greenwich Village, New York City, and settled in Fords, NJ.

He was employed as a porter/doorman at 40-50 E. 10th Street, where he dedicated nearly 20 years of his life. He was known for his hard work, dedication, and the relationships he built with so many people throughout the years.

Gil was born to Gilberto Gonzalez Sr. and the late Emma Gonzalez Mendez—may she rest in peace.

Gil married his wife, Mary Gonzalez, on June 25, 2010, and they lived the majority of their lives together in Fords. They have one son, Lucas Gonzalez, and had a beloved pet, Toby Gonzalez.

He was predeceased by his mother, Emma Gonzalez Mendez, and his sister, Georgina Gonzalez.

Gil is survived by his wife, Mary Gonzalez; their son, Lucas Gonzalez; his father, Gilberto Gonzalez Sr.; his brother, Johnny Gonzalez and his wife, Edith; his sister, Georgina (Lisa) Gonzalez and her partner, Robert; nieces and nephews, Amanda Prensa Gonzalez, Gabriella Gonzalez, Justincredible Gonzalez, Elijah Rosaro, Kiana Hayes, and Xavier Hayes; siblings of the heart, Tommy Moreira, Ines Gonzalez, and Sandra Gonzalez; his parents-in-law, Agustin Arevalo and Marilina Hinojosa; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Freddy Arevalo and Diana Arevalo; and an enormous number of beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. The funeral liturgy will take place at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Perth Amboy. Interment will follow at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
