Gilbert "J.R." Nelson, Jr.  passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022 at his home in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township.  He was 82 years old.

Born on September 25, 1939 to the late Lucy and Gilbert Nelson in Barnesboro, PA, he has resided in Avenel for the last 40 years.

Mr. Nelson was employed by Peterson Stamping in Kenilworth for 30 years before retiring in 2000.

He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church and belonged to Middlesex Council 857, Knights of Columbus, Woodbridge. He also enjoyed spending time with the gang at the Sewaren waterfront.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ann Tanzy Nelson; children, Thomas Nelson and his wife, Sandra, of Hedgesville, WV and Michelle Magee and her husband, Todd, of Concord, NH; brother, Robert Nelson and his wife, Pamela, of Hobe Sound Florida; and grandson, Andrew Nelson and his wife Sarah Nelson.
