Gerald T. Connell, Sr. passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 74 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township.

Mr. Connell served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and

was employed as a truck driver for many years. More recently, he was a communication operator with the NJ Department of Corrections at the A.D.T.C. facility in Avenel for 15 years before retiring 7 years ago.

He was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel; a third degree member of The Saint Andrew's Council #5088, Knights of Columbus, Avenel; a member of BPOE Elks, Lodge 2116, Woodbridge, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1360, Perth Amboy, American Legion Post #248, Colonia and was a former member of Avenel Fire Company #1.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter F. Connell, Sr. and Marie Williamson Connell; and a brother, Peter F. Connell, Jr.

He is survived by three children, Cheryl Pi of Newton, Jerry Connell, Jr. and his partner, Jennifer Hoerner, of High Bridge and Becky Connell and her fiancé, Craig Rohner, of Parlin; two granddaughters, Amanda and Daniella Pi; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 244 Avenel Street, Avenel.
