Georgia Papageorgiou, of Perth Amboy, peacefully passed away on June 24, 2021 at Ocean Medical Center. She was 86 years old.

Georgia was born and raised in the small village of Anavriti, Greece. She eventually settled with her family in Tripoli, Greece.

She married her beloved husband Nicholas in October 1961 and emigrated to the United States in 1964, first living in Perth Amboy and then residing in Woodbridge for 40 years. She was a devoted wife and mother. She would be often seen visiting and helping her husband at the family restaurant, the Premium Diner, in Avenel.

Georgia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and devoted friend. She loved cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends. Georgia's grandchildren were her biggest joy. She was a devoted member of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy for 57 years where she participated in Philoptochos and the Seniors' Group.

Georgia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Nicholas Papageorgiou, in 2002; her cherished parents, Panayiotis and Stavroula Mavrookas; and her brothers and sisters, George, John, Panayiota and Demetra Mavrookas.

Surviving are her daughter, Virginia (Evyenia) Luck and her husband, Christopher, of Mount Desert Island, ME; her son, Bob Papageorgiou and his wife, Andrea, of Island Heights; her beloved grandchildren, Madison, Samantha, Olivia and Ava; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street (at Barron Avenue), Woodbridge. Funeral services will be on Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home, a Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy. Interment will be in Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy.
