Obituary

George Petro passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at his home in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township with his beloved family at his side. He was 82 years old. Born in Priefopa, Czechoslovakia, Mr. Petro has resided in Port Reading since 1959. He was employed as a driver with Yellow Freight Company in South Plainfield and East Brunswick for 40 years before retiring in 1995; and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. George's greatest joy was time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ann Cafaro and Irene Kalsky; and three brothers, John, Michael and Edward Petro. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Janice Harkins Petro; a daughter, Gayellen Mestichelli and her husband, Robert, of Chattanooga, TN; three sons, George Petro and his wife, Maryann, of Edison, Daniel Petro and his wife, Lisa, of Woodbridge and Darin Petro and his wife, Dawn, of Port Reading; a sister Barbara Petro of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren, Elise, Jennifer, Lindsay, Staci, Daniel, Patrick and Parker; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue in Woodbridge. Cremation will be private. A prayer service will take place on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005.
