Fred A. Betz passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 78 years old.
Born on January 9, 1947 in Adrian, Michigan to the late Helen and Lawrence Betz, he resided in Ocean Grove before moving to Woodbridge 48 years ago.
Mr. Betz was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, where he earned three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
Fred was a graduate of Neptune High School, working the bumper cars at the Palace Arcade during this time.
He was employed as a civil engineer with the New Jersey Department of Transportation for 38 years before retiring in 2007.
Mr. Betz was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, coached for Woodbridge Little League for many years, was a dedicated New York Jets fan and loved playing computers games.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Clifford Betz and Melvin Betz.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Alyce Walker Betz; son, Jeff Robert Betz and his wife, Amy, of Fort Myers, Florida; sister, Brenda Roe and her husband, Dan, of Michigan; brother, Larry Betz and his wife, Lesa, of Michigan; sister and brother in law, Kathleen and John Hogan; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Mr. Betz's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
