Frank Carmine
Giordano
April 28, 1951 — September 10, 2016
Frank Carmine Giordano passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his home in Woodbridge. He was 65 years old.
Born on April 28, 1951 in Newark to the late Carmine and Rose Lombard Giordano, he resided in Newark and Roseland before moving to Woodbridge in 2012.
A loving and supportive brother, uncle and brother-in-law, Frank was always there when his family needed help or guidance. After the death of his parents, Frank stepped in to act as the "rock" his family needed when they felt overwhelmed.
After graduating from East Side High School in Newark, NJ, he started work with NJ Bell Telephone Company. He stayed with them through their many name changes until his retirement from what is now Verizon Communications, Inc. He was integral in the set-up of laser communications technology in the New Jersey area. Toward the end of his career he was teaching his skills to colleagues in the communications industry, by far one of his favorite professional experiences.
Frank was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class on July 23, 1971 and awarded the National Defense Service Medal and certificates of appreciation from the Department of the Army and President Richard Nixon.
Although a private and generally quiet person, Frank made a lasting impact on those he met. While visiting Florida he met his sister, Roses', students and co-workers. Many of them still ask when he will come back again to visit.
Surviving are his sister, Rose Hoffmann and her husband, Horst; brother, Charles and his wife, Virginia (Magno), their children, Roselyn, Carmine and Carla. Also surviving are his former wife, Debbie Kmichik, who has been a friend and great source of support and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Frank's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
