Frank J. Capraro of the Fords section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Monday September 12, 2022 at Community Medical Center in Toms River.  He was 94 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, NY; He was a lifelong resident of Woodbridge Township.

He was a United States Veteran serving in Japan in the Army of Occupation and was a communicant of St. James R.C. Church in Woodbridge and was a 3 ^rd degree member of Middlesex Council #857 Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Capraro was a graduate of Woodbridge H.S. in 1946. He earned his Bachelor's and Masters Degrees from Rutgers University.

Cappy as he was known was an excellent athlete. He played Football, Basketball, and Baseball at Woodbridge. His honors included being named to the All-State Football Squad in 1945.  He was named all Middlesex County for all three sports in 1945-1946. Cappy also played college football at Rutgers. He started for the Scarlett Knights in both his Junior and Senior years of college.

Frank became a teacher, coach and then administrator in the Woodbridge School district for 40 years, he also taught and coached at Trenton Central High School and was the Athletic Director at JPStevens in Edison.  He was in involved in Education for nearly 60 years retiring at the age of 81.

Frank was also a member of Ironworker's Local #11, where he worked during the summer months.  He was also a Baseball Umpire, Basketball Referee, Wresting Official and College Football referee along with his brother Vincent.

As Woodbridge Head Baseball Coach 1957-1967 his teams won 122 games. His 1957 baseball team won The Home News Tri County Championship and were finalists in 1958, 1959, and 1967. His Woodbridge football teams (1973-1987) won 60% of their games and one State Sectional Championship in 1980 (playoff finalists in 1976), one MCAC title in 1983, and one GMC Red Division title in 1986.

At Trenton, Coach Capraro led the 1969 team to an undefeated season

Coach Capraro was inducted into the New Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993. He was, also, inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1975 from Woodbridge High School.

In 2018, he and his brother Vincent were inducted into the Woodbridge Township Athletic Alumni Association Hall of Fame. He also received numerous awards and honors from organizations throughout his career.

Frank was always willing to help people.  He mentored other educators.  counseled students and friends and was also a life member of the Woodbridge Emergency Squad, serving the community.  Frank clearly made a positive impact on the lives he touched and will be deeply missed.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosemarie Borbone Capraro who passed away in 2017; his sisters Rose Tamburello and Lucille Wells; his brothers Dr. Vincent Capraro  and  John Capraro.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia Capraro and her husband Ken Zrinski of Fords; his son James Capraro and his wife Sharon of Madeira Beach, Florida; his sister Dr. Dolores Gioffre; his grandchildren Frank Chad and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.

The Visiting hours will be Friday, September 16, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.

A Funeral Liturgy Will take place Saturday, September 17, 2022 10:00 am at St. James R.C. Church.  Entombment will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.
