Florence Salerno of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 91 years old. Born in Jersey City, she has resided in Avenel since 1971. Mrs. Salerno was employed in the Assembly Department at RCA in Jersey City and Edison for 25 years, retiring in 1971. She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel. Mrs. Salerno was predeceased by her husband, Paul James Salerno, in 2010; her parents, Joseph and Mary Pignatara; two brothers, Frank Pignatara and Patsy Pignatara; and two brother-in-laws, Anthony Salerno and Andrew Salerno. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lena Pennisi and her husband, Louis, of Old Bridge; a son, Carmine Salerno and his wife, Marie, of Avenel; a brother, Rudy Pignatara, of Bayonne; a brother-in-law, Frank Salerno, of Avenel; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn Britske and her husband, Keith, Paul Frank Salerno and his wife, Laura, Michael Paul Pennisi, Gina Marie Pennisi and Katherine Lena Salerno; two great grandchildren, Matthew Britske and Ryan Britske; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. from the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Entombment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
