Obituary

It is with grieving hearts that we share the death of our beloved Florence (nee Bald) Betcher. Florence passed away on Thursday March 28, 2013, at Riverton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rahway. She was 92. Florence was born on January 4, 1921 in Jersey City. She was trained in West Hudson Hospital in Jersey City where she became a Registered Nurse. Due to health reasons, Florence changed professions and worked in Jonathan Logan contracting department retiring in 1975. She married her sweetheart, Fred Pabst, in Arkansas, and then lived in California during World War II, where Florence had the opportunity to become involved with Sister Kenny polio treatments. She also worked for Dr. John B. Faison, an oncologist for 13 years. Florence married John Betcher in 1977 and moved to Hazlet before eventually moving to Keyport, NJ. Florence was a member of St. Benedicts Golden Achievers in Holmdel, a member of the Holy Family Senior Golden Age Club, Keyport Seniors Club, an Honorary Member of the Holy Family Altar and Rosary Society and was involved with the Bayshore Hospital Thrift Shop in Keyport. Florence was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary as President of the Bright Burrows Post in Jersey City. She was a cancer survivor who fought bravely always thanking God for her recovery. Florence had a sweet way of showing her surprise with the expression "Sacred Heart". She was referred to as "Sacred Heart" when friends were talking about her. She was predeceased by her husbands, Fred Pabst in 1976, and John Betcher in 1997; her parents, William and Florence Bald; and her brothers William and James. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Pfeiffer and her husband Kenneth; her granddaughter, Patrice Nonnenmacher and her husband, Richard; her grandson Keith Pfeiffer, great-granddaughters Paige Nonnenmacher, Sydnie Pfeiffer and Jamie Nonnenmacher. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 8:45 a.m. from the Costello Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew's Church, Avenel. Iterment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be on Monday April 1, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association or to the Alzheimers Association.
