Evonnie Drinkard Braxton passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Country Home in Morris Plains, NJ, after being surrounded by family. Evonnie was born in Mobile, Alabama. She relocated to New York at a young age and later settled in Perth Amboy, NJ. She worked at Shoprite as a cashier for many years until retirement. She was 76 years old.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry R. Braxton who passed away in 2014, her parents Jacob Drinkard and Mary Lee Thomas Drinkard, two sisters: Pacita Drinkard and Melissa Drinkard, two brothers: Fred Drinkard and Jacob Drinkard, Jr.
She is survived by her children; Pamela Drinkard-Koen and her husband Christopher of Northridge, CA, Michelle Hawkins and her husband Kenneth of Atlanta, GA, Kenneth Drinkard and his wife Pamela of Fords, NJ, Lisa Drinkard-Womack of Dearborn, MI, and Henry Braxton II and his partner Samantha Royal of East Windsor, NJ. She is survived by nine grandchildren; Candice, Kenneth Jr, Shaunette, Tyree, Khatybra, Samaya, Alexandria, David and Amanda. Four great grandchildren; Maya, Braelyn, Zoriah, and Ciera. She is also survived by her two brothers; James Drinkard and his wife Yolanda of Las Vegas, NV, Fred Carter and his wife Bernadette of Mobile, AL and three sisters; Dorothy Drinkard of Mobile, AL, Geraldine Drinkard-Moore of Northridge, CA, Ola Duncan and her husband Thomas of Stone Mountain, GA and surived by her closest friend of 46 years, Mary Riggins.
Evonnie loved watching sports, especially baseball, with her late husband Henry whom she called "Pete". She enjoyed going out to restaurants with her friends and family. She especially loved going to the casinos. Recently she resided at the Country Home, where she was treated as the "Queen". She enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless at the Country Home with her extended family. Her family and friends will always remember her strong-minded and lively personality.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday February 3, 2021, 2:15 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ. Visiting hours will be Wedneday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
