Esther D. Winans passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. She was 94 years old.

Born in Providence, RI, she has resided in Stottville, NY, Elizabeth and the Avenel and Colonia sections of Woodbridge Township for the past 66 years.

Mrs. Winans received her Bachelors of Science degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY, and was employed as a chemist for Exxon Mobil Corporation in Linden for 24 years before her retirement, and was a member of the Independent Laboratory Employees Union.

She was predeceased by her husband, David R. Winans, in 1999; and parents, Joseph and Marcella Deleau Deffley.

Surviving is her son, Dave Winans.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home ( www.costello-koyen.com ), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
