Esther Pucker Nielsen passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Bridgeway Care Center at Hillsborough. She was 91 years old. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for many years before moving to Yardley, PA. Mrs. Nielsen was employed as a secretary for many years with Nabisco Retail Sales in Perth Amboy, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Corporation in New Brunswick, DuPont Photo Products in Parlin, Avenel Coal and Oil Company, and Walsh Oil Company in Metuchen before her retirement. A graduate of Perth Amboy High School, class of 1941, Mrs. Nielsen was a member and past president of Delta Theta Rho as well as a member of their Past President's Organization. She also belonged to the Independent Order of Oddfellows, was a state officer in the Avenel Junior Women's Club and served as trustee in the Danish Sisterhood. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel, where she was very active as a Sunday School teacher, Fellowship Advisor for the Whales, Termites and Junior High groups, co-superintendent and teacher for Vacation Bible School, Deacon, choir member and chairwoman of the church fair. She also led neighborhood Bible studies. Mrs. Nielsen was predeceased by her husband, Hans A. Nielsen, in 1983; a sister, Grace Dolan and a brother, Russell Pucker, Sr. Surviving are her children, Lynn Nielsen and her husband, Russ Baldwin, of Flemington and Roger Nielsen and his wife, Joyce, of Yardley, PA; and four grandchildren, Kristen, Blake, Brian and Sarah. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel, 621 East Woodbridge Avenue, Avenel. Interment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel.
