Elizabeth A.
Leusen
June 9, 1943 — January 5, 2024
Whiting
Elizabeth Ann Leusen passed away peacefully at Whiting Healthcare Center on January 5, 2024. She was 80 years old.
Betty Ann was born in Newark to the late Joseph and Concetta Barboza. She moved to Woodbridge in 1971, where she and her husband, Thomas, raised their family. They moved to Whiting in 2007. She attended East Side High School in Newark and upon graduation worked for The Prudential Insurance Company for several years. In 1965, she and Thomas married. After their first child was born, Betty Ann left the workforce to begin what would be her most important job, a mom. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She gave to her children selflessly and enjoyed telling others she was most proud that her four children graduated from college (which was her and Tom's most important goal) and are all educators.
She was a strong, humble woman whose Catholic faith was an essential part of her life. As her children got older, she returned to work, most notably at the offices of the Diocese of Metuchen, which allowed her to serve the Lord. She retired in 2007. She was a communicant of St. James RC Church in Woodbridge for many years and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church in Whiting. Betty Ann loved watching the NY Mets and talking about them to the other Mets fans in her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Concetta Barboza.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 58 years, Thomas Leusen; her children, Janine Gardner and husband, Ken of Woodbridge, Patricia Bader and husband, John of Woodbridge, Dawn Jardot and husband, Jimmy of Leonardo, and Thomas Leusen and wife, Stacey of Leonardo. She was also the best "Nanny" to her nine grandchildren; Rebecca (Casey,) Christian, Kenny, Matthew, Brittany, T.J., Samantha, Harper, and James who were the light of her life. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Antone Barboza and wife, Adele of West Caldwell, and sister-in-law, Lois Accommando of Metuchen, as well as several nieces and nephews.
