ELEANORE J. SCHIRGER Age 96, Avenel Eleanore J. Schirger, "Nana" left this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Eleanore was born in Perth Amboy on June 22, 1918 and attended Perth Amboy High School. She was a lifelong resident of Woodbridge Township and was employed by the Woodbridge Township Board of Education as a clerk/secretary. She was 96 and right until the end was vibrant, alert and completely engaged. On Friday prior to her death, she was doing her crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble on her notepad - and winning against the computer. Anyone who met Eleanore was completely captivated by her warm, friendly and engaging personality. So many times she could be found sitting on the floor with her grandkids playing board games: Monopoly, Rummy Cube - you name it. Eleanore was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, and her beloved daughter, Eleanore A. Durek. She was also predeceased by her parents, Charles and Anna Hydo, a sister, Anne W. Hydo and a brother, Albert Hydo. She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Mary Jane Krebs and her husband, Jeff; Janice Bolanowski and her husband, Ron; Patricia Hoel and her husband, Al; Susan-Schirger Ward and her husband, Jim; and Judy Ramaglia as well as her loving son-in-law, Jim Durek and his wife, Kathy. She also left behind numerous grandchildren who adored her: Patrick and his wife, Iris; Michael and his wife, Anne; Brian, Kristine and her husband, Kevin; Taylor; Derek and Richard as well as two beautiful great granddaughters, Isis and Isara. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel.
