Eleanor Mae Smith passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 86 years old. Born in Union, she resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for many years. Mrs. Smith worked as an Avon representative and had studied opera in New York City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel for 60 years and had served as Choir Director for over 40 years. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Smith, in 1998; two sisters Marion Rieder, and Grace Hempel. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Herrington of Sayreville and Sharon Kantor of Edison; two sons, Thomas Smith of Avenel and Jeffrey Smith of Edison; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. There will be a funeral service on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel. Entombment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
