Edward A. Strauss passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his home in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township. He was 79 years old.

Born in New York City, he resided in Iselin from 1966 until 1987 and then in Plano, TX until moving back to Iselin 6 months ago.

Mr. Strauss was employed as National Manager, Data Processing J.C. Penney in New York City and Plano, TX before retiring in 1996.

He was an active communicant of Saint Cecelia's Catholic Church in Iselin where he was instrumental in the construction of the new church, gym conversion and took great pride in his participation in the Iselin Fair for many years. His impact on the community was evident by his active involvement with the youth in the community. He served 10 years as President of Saint Cecelia's Golden Knights Program and was honored to have a dedication of the gym in his name when the old church was converted. His countless hours coaching and mentoring through his children and grandchildren are cherished memories.

Mr. Strauss was predeceased by his son, Edward Strauss, in 2001; and two brothers, Joseph and Jerome Strauss.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Barberi Strauss; four daughters, Barbara Strauss Eicholtz (Skip) of Colonia, Theresa Strauss Wood (Steve) of Iselin, Gia Strauss Teeple (Jon) of Iselin and Veronica Strauss Johnson (Curtis) of Plano, TX; two sons, Jay Strauss of Brick and Vincent Strauss of Iselin; his daughter in law, Jane Strauss, of Fords; a brother, Frank Strauss; ten grandchildren, Justin (Natasha), Jessica, Courtney, Kyle, Eddie, Nick, Ryan, Brandon, Lucas, Shea; two great grandchildren Alicia and Logan; and brother in law, Charles Barberi and his wife, Theresa and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( costello-greiner.com ), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Cecelia's Catholic Church in Iselin. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to "With Eddie's Help", 36 Aberdeen Avenue, Iselin, NJ 08830-2149 in Mr. Strauss' memory would be greatly appreciated by the family. " With Eddie's Help" is a New Jersey nonprofit corporation founded by Mr. Strauss in honor of his son, Edward. T (Eddie) Strauss, who was lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Eddie was a courageous and generous person who spent a great deal of his time helping other people.
