Edward H. Hayes of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at home. He was 96 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938; He resided in Avenel since 1951.

Mr. Hayes served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II aboard the USS LST-204 and the USS LST-782.

He was employed Western Electric in Kearny for 40 years retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Union County Chapter, Lifetime member of The Avenel Veteran of Foreign Wars post #7164, and The Woodbridge Senior Citizens Bowling League.

Ed was known for his quick wit and sense of humor and his love of family was boundless.

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, bowling, golf, and was an avid animal lover especially his grand-dogs Riley, Reggie, and Lexi.

He was predceased by his parents Wiliam and Anna Geiger Hayes; a brother Franklin Hayes.

Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years Angeline Carbone Hayes; two daughters Janet Hayes DeCaprio and her husband Richie and Christine Reno and her husband John; a son William Hayes and his wife Patty; four grandchildren Brian, Donna, Melissa, and Jennifer.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Oksanna for her loving care.

Funeral will take place Saturday 9:45 a.m. at St. Andrew's R.C. Church, North Madison Avenue, Avenel. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
