Edward Joseph Berardi passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was 75 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, he has resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township since 1969.

Mr. Berardi was a 1960 graduate of Perth Amboy High School and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed as a pipefitter with General Motors Corporation in Linden for 31 years before retiring in 2000.

He was an active volunteer firefighter throughout his life. He belonged to Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Company #5 for 7 years and was a life member of Avenel Fire Company #1, where he served as chief in 1980. He was also a life member of the Avenel Exempt Firemen's Association, Woodbridge Township Fire Officer's Association, NJ State Volunteer Fire Chiefs Association and NJ Firemen's Relief Association; and served as a Fire Commissioner with Woodbridge Fire District #5 and with Woodbridge Township Emergency Management.

Mr. Berardi was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Jacob Berardi; a sister, Francis Hareslak and three brothers, Nicholas, Frank and Dominick Berardi.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mary Lou Wranitz Berardi; a brother, James, and his wife, Betty, of Florida; three brothers in law, Roger Wranitz and his wife, Nancy, of Canadesis, PA, Ronald Wranitz and his wife, Laura, of Hampton, and Frank Hareslak of Perth Amboy; a sister in law, Doris Berardi, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Entombment will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
