Dorothea Helen Harrah Smith was born in Amherst Virginia in February1927.

She was raised in Quinnimont, WV.  She moved to Avenel, NJ in 1953 from Ashland City, TN.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, of 73 years, her grandson. William Smith, her father Hobert Harrah, her mother Alma Burke, her sisters Louise Brooks and Geneva Coleman and brother William Harrah.

Dorothea is survived by her son Carl Smith Jr., her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Alan Rinker of North Beach, MD, her grandsons Brandon Rinker and his wife Melanie of Lyman, SC, Justin Rinker of North Beach, MD and her granddaughter Kimberly Holland and her husband Darren of Woodbridge, NJ, two great granddaughters Brooke Elizabeth Holland and Ivy Smith and two great grandsons Ryan Holland and Jaxon Smith.

Dorothea was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel where she worked in the food pantry.

Dorothea retired from the A&P Tea Co. after 32 years. She also worked for KMart for ten years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 7164, Avenel, NJ.

Services will take place Tuesday, October 7, 2025 11:30 am at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens mausoleum.
