Donald J. Polhamus passed away on Sunday September 12, 2021 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. He was 81 years old.

Born in Colonia, Donald had lived in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township for 57 years.

He owned and operated Polhamus Carpets for most of his life; and was also a Police Dispatcher for the Woodbridge Police Department for 15 years before retiring.

Donald was a veteran of the United States Navy, he served on the USS ESSEX CV-9 with his two brothers Thomas and Ralph; he also belonged to American Legion Post #87 in Woodbridge.

He was predeceased by his son, Troy Polhamus; parents, Richard and Marie Polhamus; sister, Beatrice Frazier; and brothers, Thomas Polhamus, Robert Polhamus, Ralph Polhamus and Theodore Polhamus and brother-in-law, George Hronich

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Charlotte, of Sewaren; children, Glenn Polhamus of Sewaren and Darlene Polhamus and her wife, Kym Kosinski, of Port Reading; granddaughter, Rachel Polhamus; and great grandson, Chase Jacob, sister-in-law Berni Fedison of Sewaren and Barbara (Bunny) Hronich of Port Reading, brother-in-law Robert Fedison of Sewaren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will take place on Friday September 17, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street Woodbridge. A funeral service will follow at Vander Hoven Chapel on the grounds of Hazel Wood Cemetery in Rahway at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
