Dominick S. LaPenta of Woodbridge passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 91 years old.
Born in Woodbridge He was a lifelong resident and well known business owner and musician He owned and operated LaPenta Oil a family business that his sons still operate, He was a skilled musician excelling the saxophone and clarinet. His band, Don LaPenta and the Good Times performing at many weddings. He also sat with the Jimmy Dorsey Band and The Sammy Kay Band. During in his later years he was a performer with The Emperial Band of South River.
Mr. LaPenta was a 1947 graduate of Woodbridge High School.; He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a Communicant of St. James R.C. Church where he served as the head usher for many years and performed in many minstrels and was a member and past Grand knight of The Middlesex Council #857 knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his Wife Rose LaPenta; his parents Samuel and Alveira Iannucci LaPenta; his step-daughter Tina Noto.
He is survived by two daughters Toni LaPenta of Woodbridge, and Jodi Verello and her husband Thomas of Branchburg; two sons Donald LaPenta and his wife Lucy of Forked River, and William LaPenta and his wife Lynn of Bayville; his longtime companion Margaret Ruffino; a brother Kenneth LaPenta of Florida; his step-children Sherry Zigre of Fords and Victor Calantoni of Woodbridge; eleven grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral will take place Thursday, May 27, 2021 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.Costello-Greiner.com ) 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A 10:30 a.m. funeral liturgy will take place at St. James R.C. Church. Entombment will be in St. James Chapel Mausoleum.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Saint James Food Pantry 174 Grove Street, Woodbridge, NJ 07095
