Obituary

Dolly Cardona Nuñez of Mercerville formerly of Rahway passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021.  She was 81 years old.

Born in Belalcazar, Colombia; She grew up surrounded by her loving parents and 14 brothers and sisters.   She arrived in the USA in 1972, worked for several years in housekeeping at Villa Maria Nursing Home, North Plainfield and McAuley Hall, Watchung.  She was a homemaker where she lovingly cared for her two children.  An avid crafter, she made many beautiful gifts for family, friends and donations to nursing homes and pro-life organizations. She loved to travel, sing and dance.  Her joyful sense of humor, open heart and willingness to lend a helping hand made her beloved by many.

She resided in Rahway before moving to Mercerville 1 ½ years ago along with her family.  Ms. Nuñez was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Rahway, she participated in Eucharistic Adoration regularly and enjoyed sharing her faith with others.

She was predeceased by her son J. Alcibar Florencio Nuñez who passed away in 2004; her parents Marco Cardona and Ines Correa de Cardona; Brothers, Diego Cardona, Dario Cardona, Julio Cardona. Sisters Zulema Cardona, Mariela Cardona, Lida Elena Cardona.

Surviving are her daughter Peggy Nuñez Gaete and her husband Sergio A. Gaete of Mercerville; her former husband Polit Nuñez of Ecuador; her brothers and sisters, Beatriz Cardona of Texas; Rodrigo Cardona, Alvaro Cardona, Alberto Cardona and wife Silvia, Carmelita Cardona, Gloria Cardona, Maria Cristina Cardona of Colombia, and Nestor Cardona and wife Luz Amparo of California; and 35 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place Friday, December 31, 2021 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel.  A 10:00  a.m. Funeral Liturgy will follow at Divine Mercy Parish, Central Avenue, Rahway.  Interment will be in St. Gertrudes Cemetery, Colonia.

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Dolly Cardona Nuñez de Mercerville antes de Rahway falleció el domingo 26 de diciembre de 2021. Tenía 81 años.

Nacida en Belalcazar, Colombia; Creció rodeada de sus cariñosos padres y 14 hermanos y hermanas. Llegó a los EE. UU. En 1972, trabajó durante varios años al servicio del Hogar de Ancianos Villa Maria, North Plainfield y McAuley Hall, Watchung. Ella era ama de casa y cuidó con amor a sus dos hijos. Su pasatiempo favorito eran las artes manuales, hizo muchos regalos hermosos para familiares, amigos y donaciones a hogares de ancianos y organizaciones pro-vida. Le encantaba viajar, cantar y bailar. Su alegre sentido del humor, su corazón abierto y su voluntad de ayudar la hicieron amada por muchos.

Residió en Rahway antes de mudarse a Mercerville hace un año y medio junto con su familia. La Sra. Nuñez era miembro de la Parroquia de la Divina Misericordia en Rahway, participaba en la Adoración Eucarística con regularidad y disfrutaba compartiendo su fe con los demás.

Le precedieron su hijo J. Alcibar Florencio Nuñez, fallecido en 2004; sus padres Marco Cardona e Ines Correa de Cardona; Hermanos, Diego Cardona, Dario Cardona, Julio Cardona. Hermanas Zulema Cardona, Mariela Cardona, Lida Elena Cardona.

Gaete de Mercerville; su ex esposo Polit Nuñez de Ecuador; sus hermanos y hermanas, Beatriz Cardona de Texas; Rodrigo Cardona, Álvaro Cardona, Alberto Cardona y esposa Silvia, Carmelita Cardona, Gloria Cardona, María Cristina Cardona de Colombia y Nestor Cardona y esposa Luz Amparo de California; y 35 sobrinos y sobrinos.

Los servicios funerarios se llevarán a cabo el viernes 31 de diciembre de 2021 a las 9:15 a.m. desde la funeraria Costello-Koyen, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Seguirá una liturgia fúnebre a las 10:00 a.m. en la parroquia Divine Mercy, Central Avenue, Rahway. El sepelio será en el cementerio de Santa Gertrudis, Colonia. El horario de visita será el jueves de 7:00 pm a 9:00 pm en la funeraria. En lugar de flores, se pueden hacer contribuciones conmemorativas al St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
