David “Butchie” Ur was called Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 18, 2026. He was 86 years old. He was born and raised in Woodbridge and graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1958. He moved to New Brunswick in 1989.
He attended New York University where he studied Business Management. He worked in retail stores as Department Manager in Caldor’s and Korvette’s. He studied gemology and was a jewelry buyer for Gertz Department store in Elizabeth.
He was a “Renaissance Man” and was well versed in art, theater, opera and classical music. He enjoyed reading, political science, and military history books debating the subjects.
He also served as supervisor for the Civilian Education and Training (CETA) for Woodbridge Township. He was a volunteer worker for Elijah’s Kitchen and served meals for the needy.
He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a medic.
David was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Julia Szilaqyi Ur; his four brothers Alex, John, Joseph and Stephen Ur; and his four sisters Irma Ur, Rose Ur, Elizabeth Huth, and Mary Ruiz.
Surviving David is his sister Agnes Mudrack; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were conducted privately under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home of Woodbridge.
