Daniel V. Balinski passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was 79 years old.
Born in South Amboy, he grew up in Perth Amboy and has resided in Woodbridge for 50 years.
Mr. Balinski was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1960. He received his bachelor's degree in history from Rutgers University and master's degree from Central Michigan University. He was a member of ROTC while at Rutgers and served in the United States Air Force for 28 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Upon retirement from the Air Force he served as a Liaison Officer to Air Force Academy. He was employed with the United States Department of Labor as an investigator before becoming a teacher at Robert N. Wilentz Elementary School in Perth Amboy.
He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge, where he was a member of the choir with his wife Kathy. Mr. Balinski had a love for singing and belonged to several Barbershop groups including the Jerseyaires and Brothers in Harmony of Hamilton Square, NJ. He also was an assistant baseball coach in Woodbridge Little League. Mr. Balinski was the head coach of the Woodbridge Warriors Travel Soccer Team for the Woodbridge Twp. Youth Soccer Association.
Mr. Balinski was a diehard Yankees fan since childhood and rarely missed a game. He was also an avid fan of Rutgers Athletics and was a Rutgers Football season ticket holder with his son Dan.
Mr. Balinski is survived by his wife of 55 loving years, Kathleen Kowalczyk Balinski; son, Daniel M. Balinski and his wife, Amy; sister, Elizabeth Phillips; and grandsons, Matthew and Gavin.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street (at Barron Avenue), Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge. Interment will take place on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, North Hanover Township.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
