Claire E. Sugent passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 88 years old.

Born on January 14, 1938 in Rahway to the late Helen and Herman Neumann, she was a lifelong resident of the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township.

Mrs. Sugent worked for several years as a payroll clerk with Merck & Company in Rahway until 1963 when she became a stay at home mom as well as caretaker for her mother.

Claire was an aspiring clothing designer who many things in life including art, cooking and crafting, particularly creating Christmas tree ornaments that were quite popular.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Sugent was predeceased by her son, Brian Sugent, in 2022.

Surviving are her loving husband of 63 years, Ronald L. Sugent; and son, Scott Sugent and his wife, Shannon DeHart, of West Orange.

Funeral services were private under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org) in Claire’s memory would be greatly appreciated by her loved ones.
