Catherine Lewanski passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick. She was 85 years old.
She was born and raised in Jersey City, where she married her husband, Frank, and later moved to Bayonne where they raised their daughters.
She loved her job as medical assistant to Dr. Simpson and then as administrative assistant at Saint Peter's University. After retiring from Saint Peter's University, she and her husband moved to North Port, FL where they lived for 20 years.
In Florida, she continued her devotion to public service and was a member of San Pedro Ladies Guild; and life member and past president of American Legion Auxiliary 254. Currently, she is a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel and belongs to Saint Andrew's Rosary Society and Golden Circle, Avenel Seniors.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Frank Lewanski; son John Alexander Lewanski; sisters, Dorothy McCann, Violet Ertle and Charlotte York; and brothers, John, George, Everett and William Ertle.
Surviving are her daughters, Lillian Camacho and her fiancé, Tom Botsolas, Kathleen Lewanski and her husband, Richard Bello and Doris Gress and her husband, Gary; grandchildren, Joseph Camacho and his wife, Melissa, Michael Camacho and his wife, Jaclyn, Meredith Bello, Richard "Max" Bello, Kyrsten Van Natta, Chelsea Geyer and Jessica Lampert; and great grandchildren, Hannah Lillian Camacho and Jacob Brian Camacho.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
