Catalina Areizaga passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. She was 84 years old. Born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, she resided in Newark, Hillside and Perth Amboy before moving to the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township over 50 years ago. Mrs. Areizaga was employed as a machine operator with Bristol Myers Corporation in Hillside; and was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading. She loved cooking, crocheting and the New York Yankees. Mrs. Areizaga was predeceased by a son, John Areizaga, in 2011; and a brother, Frank Cruz. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Elmer Areizaga; two daughters, Michele Schendorf and her husband, Ron, of Fords and Darlene Bunca of Franklin; two sons, Michael Areizaga of Rahway and Raymond Areizaga of Jackson; a brother, Raymond Cruz, of Elizabeth; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Bunca, Raymond Areizaga and Ronnie Schendorf; and two great granddaughters, Juliana and Kelsea Areizaga. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
