Obituary

Carole B. O'Brien passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains.  She was 94 years old.

Born on May 9, 1929, to the late Barbara (Muchie) and John Leslie Hohf, she grew up in Elizabeth and lived in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for most of her life.

Carole attended St. Mary's High School and the Drake Business School in Elizabeth; and was employed as an Import Export Traffic Administrator with Siemens in Iselin for 13 years before her retirement.

She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel; and belonged to Woodbridge Democratic Club, Middlesex County Board of Elections, Ladies Auxiliary of the Woodbridge Elks, No. #2116, The Red Hats Club and Woodbridge Police Wives, where she had served as president.

In addition to her parents, Carole was predeceased by her husband, Woodbridge Police Chief Anthony "Tony" O'Brien, in 2014; and son, Robert O'Brien, in 2013.

Surviving is her daughter, Elizabeth O'Brien-Barry and her husband, Kevin, of Westfield; son, James O'Brien and his fiancé, Gabrielle Steib, of Colonia; grandchildren, Anna Marie O'Brien, Evan O'Brien, Kathleen Barry, and Caroline Barry; and great-grandchildren, Olivia O'Brien, Harper O'Brien, and Halo O'Brien.

Carole and Tony travelled extensively, enjoying cruises and trips across the USA and Europe. They also loved spending time at their Myrtle Beach condo with friends.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, North Madison Avenue, Avenel. Visiting hours will be on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org), 501 Saint Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Woodbridge Animal Shelter, 195 Woodbridge Avenue, Sewaren, NJ 07077 in Carole's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
