Carmelo Pereira passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at his home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. He was 46 years old. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, he resided in Jersey City before moving to Colonia in 2001. Mr. Pereira was employed as a sheriff's officer with the Hudson County Sheriff's Department for 23 years until 2012. He was predeceased by his father, Ruben Rivera. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Crayne Pereira; a daughter, Maya Eliana Pereira; a son, Carmelo Antonio Pereira; his mother, Patricia Campoverde; five sisters, Ana Pereira and her husband, Efrain Castro, Theresa Rivera and her husband, Nelson, Carmen Pereira, Sandra Pereira and Maritza Sanay; two brothers, Ruben Pereira and his wife, Ivette and Luis Campoverde and his wife, Mercedes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, Colonia. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
