Benetta C. Sauer Svoboda of the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Thursday, August 9. 2018 at Robert Johnson at Rahway Hospital. She was 92 years old.

Born in Dexter, Missouri, she resided in Avenel for most of her life before moving to Iselin in 2017.

Mrs. Svoboda was employed at RCA Corporation in Avenel for 20 years, and was then employed as a custodian for The Woodbridge Township Board of Education for 20 years, primarily at Woodbine School #23 in Avenel before retiring in 1993.

She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. She was a devoted and loving wife; nurturing mother; doting grandmother and great grandmother; loving, kind friend, and loved by many.

Mrs. Svoboda was active in community volunteer work. She was a member of Golden Circle, Avenel Senior Citizens, Avenel Memorial Post #7164, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America in Woodbridge and she supported her husband's dedicated work with the St. Andrew's Knights of Columbus Council 5088. She also served as a Committee Person for The Middlesex County and Woodbridge Township Democratic Organizations.

She was predeceased by her baby daughter, Julia Ann, in 1948; parents, Frederick and Philomena "Minnie" Dietsch Sauer; seven sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Philip Frank Svoboda, whom she met at a USO dance in 1944; daughter, Rosemary Cuffaro and her husband, Giuseppe, of Avenel; sons, Charles F. Svoboda of Neptune Township and Philip M. Svoboda and his wife, Deborah, of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Christina Pross and her husband, Andrew, Kenda May Svoboda, and her partner Matthew Draheim, and Eli Svoboda; great-grandson, Nathan Oliver Pross, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 8:45 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home , 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home

In lieu of flowers contributions in Benetta's memory to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society at St. Andrew's Church, 244 Avenel Street, Avenel, NJ 07001 would be greatly appreciated by her family.
