Barbara Mauro passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick after a brief battle with cancer.  She was 70 years old.

Barbara was born and raised in Jersey City, attending St Bridgette's until her family moved to Port Reading. She often reminisced about her time in Jersey City with a huge smile on her face. On the weekends, you could find Barbara at numerous garage sales and flea markets meeting up with fellow bargain hunters. During her life, she spent a great deal of time near the ocean and loved the sun.

She loved "The Burg" where she met her lifelong friend, Patty Mac, 60's music (especially Joan Baez and Bob Dylan), everything Italian, funky decorations, and General Hospital.

Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her granddaughter Bella who she shared a special bond with.

Barbara raised her two children alone and did the best she could. Her door was always open to other kids and it was not unusual to have a small apartment crammed full of teenagers hanging out. She gave even when she had nothing.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents Dominick and Angelina Amarone Mauro; her brothers, Patrick Mauro and Dominick Mauro; and nephew, Matthew Mauro.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Melissa; son, David, and his wife, Gina; brother, Richard, and his wife, Geraldine; sister-in-law, Michele; nephews, Dominick and Christopher; nieces, Teresa and Genna, grandchildren, Bella, Ben and Blake; along with her top dog, Simon.

We would like to thank her friends at Greiner Towers who were always willing to help, and who she enjoyed spending time with.

Funeral services will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge NJ.  Cremation will be private.  Visiting hours will be on Thursday beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Barbara's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
